New Infrastructure for the Diocese of Norwich
15 Apr 2009
The Diocese of Norwich is one of the oldest dioceses in England, it was founded as the Diocese of Norwich in 1094, covers 577 parishes with a population of approximately 815,000. Diocesan House is the administrative centre of the Diocese and is situated in Easton, west of
Norwich. Diocesan House and Emmaus House, located in Norwich's city centre, provide the locations for the Diocesan resource teams and administration staff.
In early 2009 it was time to decide the next steps for the infrastructure and P1 were able to offer them a solution that met not only the current IT requirements but also a solution that will see them through the next 5 years.
The new Infrastructure solution meant all of the old servers being replaced with new ones and taking advantage of Microsoft Hyper-V to provide additional virtual servers without the added cost of further hardware. Such a large scale migration involved plenty of planning and preparation to not only migrate all of the information and data, but also to keep the end-users working with minimum disruption. During the migration, P1 had to coordinate with the other suppliers of IT systems, such as Lake Financial who provide and support the Accounts system, Michael Hibbin commented,
Michael Hibbin, Chief Financial Officer
"The completion of the server project will ensure that staff can work from an IT platform with considerably more capacity. I was particularly pleased that the P1 team successfully co-coordinated the smooth migration of accounting data from the old servers and the disruption to the work of the accounts department was minimal."
John Worsfold, P1's Principle Consultant commented, ‘It can be easy to get carried away with new and exciting products and technologies but it’s crucial to understand the needs and requirements of the individual customer, and then implement the right technology based upon those requirements.’
